City introduces new banks to recycle wider range of plastics PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 04 January 2018
SCC Mixed plastics recycling bank 200 - mock upExtra plastic recycling facilities are being introduced by Southampton City Council so residents can recycle plastic pots, tubs, trays and cartons not currently accepted through kerbside collections.

The council says there will be an initial 10 recycling banks spread across different locations in the city. They apparently won’t take up any car parking spaces and will be incorporated within the present recycling bank areas.

Locations will include:
• Woodmill car park, Bitterne Park– 2 banks (tbc)
• Angel Crescent car park, Bitterne  – 2 banks (tbc)
• Westridge Road car park, Portswood – 1 bank

All types of plastic bottles can still be recycled using kerbside recycling bins, including drink bottles, shampoo bottles and cleaning product bottles, although lids should be removed.

“Many of our residents are keen recyclers and have requested that we accept all types of plastics for recycling. We’ve listened to our residents and this is the first stage in making that happen,” said Cllr Jacqui Rayment, cabinet member for environment and transport.
