sainsbury's signSainsbury’s in Portswood wants to change its licence to allow it to sell alcohol between the hours of 6am and midnight during seasonal periods.

According to a document, bizarrely hosted as an email format file on the council’s licensing portal, the applicant says the change will “allow for a little more flexibility”, and for the store to process orders during the night.

Sainsbury’s wants to change its existing licensed hours (7am until 11pm) so it can sell alcohol during these extended times 14 days before Christmas, Christmas Day, and seven days afterwards each year.

It also wants to include the Monday before Good Friday “up to and including Sunday following Easter Monday each year”.

There are some 13 objections from individuals listed on the council’s licensing portal, and Highfield Residents’ Association also said on its website it’s objecting.
