car break in library imageOfficers are reminding residents to remove valuables following a spate of thefts from vehicles over the last few weeks around the Inner Avenue and Lodge Road areas of Southampton.

They say a total of 16 vehicles have been broken into since the beginning of August, with 12 of those targeted in the last 10 days.

Most incidents have happened overnight, with vehicles in Methuen Street, Cedar Road, Spear Road and other areas off Lodge Road affected.

Purses, ipods and money have been stolen.

‘If it’s not there, it can’t be stolen’

Police say neighbourhood officers are now paying particular attention to these areas, and have reminded people not to leave anything in cars.

“Thieves aren't picky, so don't leave even low-value items in your car. Often thieves will smash and grab first and look later to see if what they've stolen is valuable”, is the warning.

If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, looking in through the windows or trying door handles, you can report them by phoning 101, or using 999 if it's happening now.
