A Baffi pizza restaurant is hoping to open as early as “mid next week” in the old Lloyds Bank building opposite Sainsbury’s on Portswood Road.

Baffi piza restaurant Portswood SouthamptonBaffi, which has four other branches in and around Bournemouth, Poole and Ringwood, says on its website it “specialises in authentic Neapolitan style pizzas” which are “cooked at very high temperatures of up to 500°C by our pizzaioli from Naples, for no longer than 90 seconds in our wood fired ovens”.

Baffi also offers a takeaway menu.

According to a licence application  it plans to open from 11am-11pm daily [update: a sign suggests opening hours are from noon until 11pm].

The chain gets a strong rating on Trip Advisor for its restaurants: its Westbourne branch, for example, scored 53% “Excellent” and a 30% “Very good” rating.

Lloyds closed its Portswood branch, on the crossroads of Portswood Road, Highfield Lane and St Denys Road, in August 2015, and NatWest is now the only big four bank on the Portswood high street – although it’s also shutting in October.

A planning application to build two more storeys for flats above the former Lloyds building was withdrawn.
