bear carerPortswood-based Carers in Southampton is inviting organisations to embrace the notion of becoming ‘carer-friendly companies’ through a fun campaign featuring bears.

The idea is to raise awareness, particularly among businesses, about staff and customers who have unpaid caring roles, and encourage employers to consider “making a pledge” to display information, so staff who are balancing caring responsibilities and work are aware of the free help that’s available if they need it.

Carers in Southampton, which works on behalf of Southampton City Council and Southampton Clinical Commissioning Group, says there are 36000 known carers in the city, and in the UK unpaid carers save the economy over £132 billion.

Organisations can request a ‘bear carer’ to visit them, so staff and managers can take selfies, and then share pictures online using the #BearCarer tag to show support.
