October Books beats crowdfunding target in just five days
Tuesday, 07 March 2017
Books, which launched a crowdfunding campaign to help it pay the rent on its Portswood Road shop, has reached its £2500 target in just five days – and says it's now going for a "stretch target" of £5000.
In a message thanking supporters, the independent bookshop said extra funds raised will go towards new software and maintenance.
Jess, Joey, Annabel, Vanui, Clare and Jaquie said on their crowdfunding page: "This extra money will help cover the costs of upgrading our ageing cataloguing software (last updated in 1996 we believe!), point of sale software, computers and phone system. We will also spend the extra on building maintenance, repairing our roller shutter, broken windows and providing insulation (it is mighty chilly in winter). So please keep sharing our story."
Originally October Books had hoped to raise £2500 before March 24, as it said it was "struggling to pay our full rent this quarter".
It also called for help from volunteers, and encouraged people to simply come in and use the shop and “buy more from us”.
