bevois valley signSainsbury’s is set to build a new convenience store on the former ‘Heli-Beds’ site in Bevois Valley.

The existing building is to be replaced by a smaller single storey unit with 18 parking spaces and a new service lay-by, with access for vehicles from Bevois Valley Road, and with the existing footpath being resurfaced and re-aligned behind a new service lay-by.

Heli-Beds closed in 2012. Until 2004, the site was operated by Southampton Motorcycle Centre.

There were around five objections raised by local residents, mainly about noise from plant, longer opening hours – proposed hours are 7am-11pm –structural stability and anti-social behaviour.

The new shop could reportedly be open in the autumn

Can only be good

A new shop here can only be good. Look how much the area improved after Aldi was built here. Plus improvements to Portswood Road with Sainsbury's and Waitrose.
As for the noise - there is noise all through the night with young revellers, who use my front garden as a bin for their takeaways and vomit outside my door. What difference would a late night opening supermarket make?
